Craps Odds

Calculating the Probabilities

To calculate the craps odds of any outcome, you have to consider the potential outcomes. Rolling two six-sided dice have a total of thirty six out comes. The possible range of totals are 11 figures which are from 2 (the minimum) to 12 (the maximum). A two and a 12 require single combinations for their occurrences. The possibility of getting a two or a 12 is therefore 1 out of 36 which may be expressed as 35 to 1 odds, to use the terminology of odds. A three can be rolled in either of two ways. You can roll a one and then two or a two and then one. Two out of 16 can be simplified further to one of 18 and be expressed as 17 to 1 odds.

The total number of craps odds from rolling two dice may be summarized by any casino news and is given in the table below:

Calculating the Odds in Craps

To be able to calculate the odds of rolling any number in craps which usually use two dice, you need divide the total number of outcomes which is 36 by the number of combinations that may result in the particular number and strategy you use when gamble. For example 7 which has the largest number of combinations 6, require dividing 36 by 6 to find 6 which can be interpreted to mean 1 in 6 chances.

To express the probability figures in terms of odds, you need to take the full number of times of chances i.e. 6 in the case of 7 and share it with the probability of non occurrence. In this case the odds of seven occurring is 5 to 1. Similarly the odds of 12 occurring is 35 to 1, the odds of 11 occurring is 17 to 1, the odds of 10 occurring is 11 to 1, the odds of 9 occurring is 8 to 1, the odds of 8 occurring is 6.2 to 1, the odds of 6 occurring is 6.2 to 1, the odds of 5 occurring is 8 to 1, the odds of 4 occurring is 11 to 1, the odds of 3 occurring is 17 to 1 and the odds of 2 occurring is 35 to 1.
